The good, bad and beautiful of Supportive Leadership
One of the leadership styles every local government leader would like to emulate is that of a supportive leader.
While this leadership style may come naturally to some, it has both advantages and disadvantages.
In this video, we consider some important characteristics of the supportive leader:
- They focus on supporting their team to help them succeed
- They enjoy resourcing their team members and helping them grow
- They can burn-out easily
- They may inadvertently create a dependency relationship with their team given that employees may constantly "need" the manager's support
