One of the leadership styles every local government leader would like to emulate is that of a supportive leader.

While this leadership style may come naturally to some, it has both advantages and disadvantages.

  • They enjoy resourcing their team members and helping them grow
  • They can burn-out easily
  • They may inadvertently create a dependency relationship with their team given that employees may constantly "need" the manager's support
