How to Avoid Favoritism
How to avoid favoritism
In today’s video we talk about favoritism.
Do you have favorites on your team? You probably do. Are these favorites your employees and your friends? Perhaps you were friends when you worked as peers.
Follow these best practices to avoid favoritism:
- Be more aware of how your personal relationships can appear to others.
- Consider backing away from some friendships due to your role as manager
- Ensure you take up for everyone on your team, not just your friends
- Maintain a professional atmosphere (versus a buddy-buddy atmosphere)
- Keep all employees in the loop and share insights with all members of your team, not just a select few
- Recognize individual team member success in a balanced way
- If you have tickets to a game or room for another person at a vendor’s luncheon, consider rotating who you ask so everyone is treated fairly
