Addressing Conflict in Local Government - Part I

Ways to Spot Tension and Conflict

Identifying and addressing conflict is part of the job of a leader.  In this video we talk about different types of actions that can all lead to conflict - which then leads to low morale, hurt feelings and lost productivity.

  • People being left out
  • Teasing that crosses the line to personal jabs
  • Snide comments made about a person behind their back
  • Passive / aggressive behavior of team members
  • Team members that bully & dominate ideas and discussion
  • Team members that overpower others with logic and facts
  • Team members that hold grudges over past tension or hurt

In any of these cases, you should lean into this tension and behavior by talking to the person quickly to learn more about what's going on and then taking appropriate action.
